Finnish Delegates meet FIEO Members

A 21-member business delegation from a Finnish Chamber had a meeting with FIEO members on 13th November at New Delhi. Kuopio Chambers of Commerce representatives explored business prospects with FIEO members in diverse fields like hospitality, construction, technology transfer, consulting, tourism, financial consulting, engineering, retailing, waste management, insurance, banking etc.

While welcoming the visiting delegation to the meeting, FIEO Convenor of Committee on International Trade & Export Promotion Mr. Subhash Mittal extolled Finland as one of the eight countries with which India initially decided to have dual nationality relations. Commenting on the trade relations between India and Finland, he said the two sides have observed a consecutive annual growth of nearly 40% in the last three years. He further said that the visit of Finnish President Mrs. Tarja Halonen to India early this year has provided a fresh momentum to Indo-Finnish trade relations.

FIEO Director General Mr. Ajay Sahai on this occasion informed the delegates about the Federation’s role in linking foreign companies with Indian exporters. He praised Finland as a warehouse of various technologies and urged the visiting delegates to help India by providing their much renowned wind power generation technology.

The delegates took keen interest in knowing about investment prospects in upcoming Indian Special Economic Zones. Many of them sought to be updated on Indian trade policies. One of the delegates showed interest in steel sector.

Finland is one of the fastest growing economies within the EU. Finnish economy enjoys very high ratings on competitiveness, environmental sustainability, utilization of cutting-edge technologies, industry-science relations, research and development etc. A recent survey by Transparency International acknowledges Finland as a corruption-free country.

Finair introduced non-stop Helsinki-Delhi flights in November 2006. At present, the airlines calls Helsinki-Delhi sector seven times a week and Helsinki-Mumbai sector five times a week.
