Romanian Importers meet Indian Exporters

Indo-Romanian Chamber of Commerce and Consulate General of Romania jointly organized a one-to-one meeting between Indian exporters and a delegation of Romanian importers on 25th October in Mumbai. The visiting delegation, representing mainly engineering and wine-based beverage industries, was led by Ms. Mihaela Lazea, Director, Ministry for Small & Medium Sized Companies, Trade, Tourism and Liberal Professions, Romania. While welcoming the delegation, FIEO President Mr. Ganesh Kumar Gupta observed that Romania was emerging as one of the most promising markets in Europe alongwith Czechoslovakia and Poland. He expressed happiness over an increase of over 100 percent in Indian exports to Romania in the last two years. According to trade data, Indian exports to Romania have gone up from 84.39 million USD in 2005-06 to 169.37 million USD in 2006-07.

Speaking further, FIEO President informed that the Federation was preparing to participate in the popular Romanian pre-Christmas retail sale fair "Suveniruri-Christmas Fair 2007 which is scheduled to be held from 1st to 9th December.

The Western Region Chairman of FIEO, Mr. S K Saraf, who is also the President of Indo-Romanian Chamber of Commerce, praised the sizeable investments made by companies of Indian origin in Romania during recent years. He informed the participants that FIEO was in the process of setting up India Trade Centre (ITC) in Bucharest, which according to him, would provide a base to Indian businessmen in Romania at one end and enable Romanian businessmen to source products from India on the other. He made a power-point presentation on the features of the upcoming ITC. He said the ITC would become operational by mid January next year.
