TN Industrial Policy

focuses export, employment

FIEO Vice President calls the new Industrial Policy of Tamil Nadu as progressive, employment intensive and export friendly. On the eve of announcement of the Policy on 5th November at Chennai, Mr. A. Sakthivel said special thrust given by the Policy on export promotion would not only boost exports from the state but also create many new jobs.

"Measures like designating the Commissioner of Industries as Export Commissioner of the State, strengthening the District Industries Centre in association with FIEO, setting up Comprehensive Trade Information Portal and providing expeditious clearance of various formalities etc. will go a long way in promoting export from the state," said Mr. Sakthivel. The Policy seeks to double the export performance of the State and create two million more jobs by 2011.

The Policy encourages R&D and value addition in industrial and agricultural production besides ensuring increased return to farmers. Moreover, it places special emphasis on the development of human resources. According to Mr. Sakthivel, this will raise the availability of skilled workforce for the industries in the state.

The Policy proposes special incentives for industrial parks and announces marine discharge scheme for Tirupur and other industrial clusters, which, says Mr. Sakthivel, is a welcome measure.

On this occasion, Mr. Sakthivel took the opportunity to present a note on the impact of rupee appreciation to the Hon’ble Chief Minister Mr. Karunanidhi and requested him to do the needful to mitigate its impact on exporters. FIEO Vice President is one of the committee members of Special Task Force for Industrial Development of Government of Tamil Nadu.

Mr. A Sakthivel, Vice President, FIEO greets Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamilnadu Shri M Karunanidhi.
