FIEO Organises course in
Chinese Language

In its continued endeavour to strengthen trade with neighboring China, FIEO organized its first Chinese Language Course at New Delhi. The ten-day part-time course was held from May 24 to June 6. The course, aimed at familiarizing the export executives with Chinese language, was inaugurated by the Chinese Embassy represen-tative, Mr. Liu Ran.
The Course structure was designed by Ms. Swee Keow Yap who is a well known authority on Chinese language. Ms. Yap has around 30 years of experience in teaching customized Chinese language to business executives, and professionals. She has been the Chairperson of Centre for East Asian Languages in JNU during her long illustrious career.

The participants evinced interests for similar courses in French, Spanish, Russian etc. and requested FIEO to take the necessary initiatives in this regard. Highlighting the opportunities of trade with China on this occasion, the Northern Region Chairman of FIEO, Dr. R K Dhawan said that the two countries had the world’s largest populations and together they were a market of over 2.4 billion people. Commenting on the pace of bilateral trade, he said the trade between India and China is accelerating fast and the two sides have probably achieved the FY08 target of US$ 20 billion during this fiscal only. |

New format for applications seeking advance rulings Prescribed format for filing application for advance rulings has been amended and made more comprehensive. Three notifications [21/2007-Customs (NT); 16.2007-Central Excise (NT) and 13/2007-ST] issued on 6th March 2007 have respectively amended Customs (Advance Rulings) Rules 2002, Central Excise (Advance Rulings) Rules 2002 and Service Tax (Advance Rulings) Rules 2003.
