Seminar on Andhra’s Export Policy

The Andhra Pradesh Chapter of FIEO in as sociation with Commerce & Export Promotion Department of Andhra Pradesh organized a Seminar on 6th February this year at Hyderabad to provide inputs to the Andhra Government which is in the process of finalizing the State’s Export Policy. More than 60 leading exporters of the State besides representatives from export promotion organizations and other trade bodies of Andhra Pradesh participated in the Seminar.

Mr. J.S.V. Prasad, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of the Andhra Pradesh State Trading Corporation (APSTC) while addressing the participants said that in order to give a fillip to exports from the State, APSTC would soon transform into Andhra Pradesh State Export Promotion Corporation and would provide export felicitation services like developing logistics for export promotion parks, industrial clusters, SEZs, AEZs, conducting trade shows and providing single window export clearance mechanism through setting up of trade centres.

According to Mr. Prasad, Andhra Pradesh is the only State with abundant energy supply and having a long sea coast it has huge potential for marine export. The State has performed well in the engineering sector and the pharmaceutical and bulk drug industry of the State has a significant global presence. The State accounts for the highest pharmaceutical based exports in the country. The services sector in the State has shown a promising growth over the past few years, he said.

Highlights of Andhra’s Export Policy

Mr. K.R.K. Reddy, Additional Secretary in the Department of Industry & Commerce of Andhra Pradesh made a detailed presentation on various administrative, fiscal and infrastructural issues addressed in the Draft Policy. Some of the objectives suggested in the Draft Policy are:

  • increase Andhra Pradesh’s share in all India exports from 5% to 10% by 2010

  • E-Governance support to exports and providing B2B facility·

  • Creating institutional mechanisms for export promotion like state-level export promotion councils, state-level export promotion committees and district-level export promotion committees

  • Developing Export Growth Centres to identify export thrust sectors and providing required infrastructural facilities

  • Creation of world-class export infrastructural facilities
