Meet with Indo-Turkish Delegation in progress |
An
Indo-Turkish Business Delegation called on the Eastern Region Office of FIEO
on 3rd February 2007 at Kolkata and had a one-to-one meet with 25 exporters
of the region. The delegation led by Mr. Murat Kiran, the East India
Representative of Indo-Turkish Business Association, comprised of nine
members representing industrial sectors such as medicine, furniture,
engineering, telecom and food, besides the Trustee of the Association Mr. H.
Oguz. The meeting was joined by FIEO officials Mr. S K Jain, the Eastern
Region Chairman, Mr. S K Patwari and Mr. Pravin Saraf, Managing Committee
Members, and Mr. Tapan Chattopadhyay, Dy. Director General.
Mr. Pravin
Saraf while welcoming the delegates observed that India and Turkey were
currently growing as new economic powers and were becoming major
destinations for global investments, especially in manufacturing and
services sectors such as IT, BPO and other knowledge based industries. India
having the largest knowledge based resource in the world could prove a
valuable business partner for Turkey, said Mr. Saraf.
Mr. S K Jain
observed that there was substantial scope for improvement in bilateral trade
between India and Turkey. Given its unique location between Europe and
Central Asia, said Mr. Jain, Turkey could become a major destination of
exports from India particularly of agro-products, processed food and
vegetables, medical equipments and appliances, engineering goods, spares and
fabrication, rubber products and a whole range of jute products. He also
shared the views of the visiting Turkish delegates that both countries may
enter into joint-ventures in construction and infrastructure development. He
assured the delegates that FIEO would work towards doubling the bilateral
trade between India and Turkey in the next three years.
During
one-to-one meet, Mr. Rajat Bose of Bose International discussed about the
scope of joint ventures in minerals and metals with the delegates Mr. Yildiz
and Mr. Simsek. Mr. Prakash Thaker of Jamnadas International spoke about
Shellac and its various uses and how Turkey could buy its derivatives. The
delegates Mr. Kose and Mr. Kuck felt the need of further dialogue on the
issue. Mr. S M Saha of Krishna Traders, one of the biggest exporters of
paper and allied products, explained the delegates how India was cost
effective in paper compared to China. The delegates had a lengthy discussion
with him and a deal is likely to materialize between them.
Mr. M.
Sengupta of Nagreeka Exports Ltd. said that apart from aluminium foils his
company was manufacturing high-end engineering products made of aluminium
which could be used in aviation and other industries. Mr. Binod Agarwal of L
M J International discussed with Mr. Mustafa Karakoc about tea, coffee,
processed food and agro products.
Mr. M C
Banerjee from Everett Logistics Pvt. Ltd. explained to the delegates how
shipping lines in India could provide greater technical support to Turkey.
Mr. Prakash
Didwania, a prominent exporter of engineering products said India had lot to
offer in spare sector to Turkey. Mr. Ramazan Simsek took some interest in
this.
Mr. S Ghosh
of Trident Services spoke about the scope of export of cement and clinker to
Turkey. Mr. Turan Yildiz showed huge interest in these products and promised
to make further queries on the same.
