Swedish
Ambassador has said that Swedish companies are best suited to carry out
infrastructure projects in India. At a meeting organized by FIEO with
visiting Swedish Trade Delegation on 4th April at New Delhi, Mr. Lars - Olof
Lindgren said "as India is currently placing emphasis on building
infrastructure, it should look towards Swedish companies which are well
known for their efficiency in handling infrastructure projects."
The
delegation leader Mr. Ulf Berg, who is the President & CEO of Swedish
Trade Council, said India is known as an IT country in Sweden while the
awareness about Sweden in India is very low. "One of the foremost
requirements is to spread the knowledge about India and Sweden in both the
countries," he said. Mr. Berg mentioned that various Indian companies
namely TCS, Wipro, Mindtree, Infosys, HCL etc. had already made successful
presence in Sweden. He was accompanied by Mr. Mattias Bergman, Vice
President, Mr. Fredrik Fexe, Trade Commissioner and Mr. Ajay Sachdeva,
Project Leader of Swedish Trade Council.
Mr. Fredrik
Fexe informed that Sweden was strong in production of pulp & paper and
could transfer the technology to interested Indian companies. On this, Mr.
Subhash Mittal, Convenor, FIEO Committee on IT & EP suggested that
Indian companies should import wood from Sweden for exporting furniture to
Sweden and other countries. Mr. Mittal identified food processing and
tourism as the other two major sectors where the two countries could
collaborate for mutual benefit. Speaking further, he proposed a
multi-product delegation to Sweden and sought the cooperation of Swedish
Trade Council in this regard.
Earlier, the
Northern Region Chairman of FIEO, Dr R K Dhawan grieved that India’s share
in Sweden’s import was a meager 0.9% and said the Federation would welcome
a delegation of importers from Sweden to increase the bilateral trade.
Towards the
end of the meeting, FIEO Director General Mr. Ajay Sahai observed that
Indian and Swedish companies could forge joint ventures in R&D
activities. "Sweden companies could outsource R&D services and
other Knowledge Process Outsourcing services from India," he said.
