Workshop on Business Sensitivity Skills at Bangalore

FIEO Karnataka Chapter organized a day-long Workshop on Business Sensitivity Skills on 24th September at Bangalore. More than 50 senior business executives visited the Workshop.

A Trainer on Business Communications and Etiquettes, Mr. R. N. Anoop made a presentation on how to deal with customers face-to-face and how to handle business meetings. To become effective, he said, one needs to develop different communication styles.

According to Mr. Anoop, Indian businessmen have a long way to go before they gather cultural understanding of countries other than the English speaking ones. He said: "Most Indian businessmen prefer to operate in English speaking zones and avoid many lucrative non-English speaking European, Latin American and Asian markets. However, due to the appreciation of Indian Rupee, it is becoming necessary for them to diversify from traditional markets to non-English speaking markets."

Commenting on the efficacy of e-mails in business communications, Mr. Anoop said, most electronic messages reach their destinations in a state of linguistic chaos, lacking the traditional hallmarks of good business correspondence: a clear purpose, logical organization, appropriate punctuation and mechanics. He said despite the conversational feel of computer-based communications, e-mail is nonetheless a written form and must therefore observe many of the conventions associated with traditional business letters and memos.

"It is also very important for Indian business community to continuously refine soft skills like etiquettes and communication for sustained operations of business. Etiquette, formerly perceived as soft skill, has been significantly instrumental for the success of most busy and result-oriented professionals because it differentiates them in a competitive market; helps in honouring commitments to quality and excellence; enables them to be confident in a variety of settings with a variety of people from all walks of life; modifies distracting behaviors and develops admired conduct." Mr. Anoop added.
