Egypt
and Turkey

FIEO led a
multi-service delegation to Egypt and Turkey from 9th to 14th September. The
delegates represented sectors like tour & travel, hospitality, medical
tourism, education and infrastructure.
A Buyer
Seller Meet was organized between the visiting delegates and Egyptian
businessmen on 11th at Cairo. The Vice-Chairman of Egyptian Tourism
Development Authority, Dr. Nader El Bidlawi, while inaugurating the Meet,
identified the services sectors having potential for bilateral cooperation.
He laid special focus on tourism sector saying it has immense potential for
bilateral cooperation as the two countries have witnessed significant
increase in terms of arrival of tourists from each other in the last few
years.
As part of
the schedule, the delegates called on Egypt’s Assistant Minister of
Tourism Mr. Hisham Zazou who observed that his government was opening more
skies for air traffic and hoped that soon there would be more flights
between the two countries. FIEO Director Mr. Sandeep Gupta alongwith
other delegates then held separate meetings with Mr. AMr. el-Ezabi,
Chairman of Tourism Development Authority, Mr. Ahmed el-Nahas,
Chairman of the Egyptian Federation Travel Chambers and Mr. Fathi Nour,
Chairman of Hotel Chamber and apprised them of India’s capabilities
in the fields of tourism, especially medical tourism.

The delegates
also had a meeting with GAFI (General Authority for Investment and Free
Zones in Egypt) officials and explored bilateral investment opportunities.
Ms. Eman Gamal, GAFI’s Under Secretary for Promotion, identified
infrastructure and hospitality as two important sectors for bilateral
cooperation between. During the meeting, Mr. Hassan Fahmy Mohamed, Head of
Investment, GAFI explained Cairo’s polices for inbound and outbound
investment in service sector.
Considering
the fast emerging investment opportunities in tourism and hospitality
industries in Turkey that saw an inflow of 20 million tourists in 2006, the
delegates visited Istanbul. There, the delegates had separate meetings
with Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEiK), Association of
Turkish Travel Agencies (TURSAB) and Istanbul Chamber of Commerce. FIEO
representatives signed an MoU with DEiK for regular exchange of business
information towards enhancing bilateral engagements in services sector.
Istanbul Chamber of Commerce agreed to send regular business delegations to
India for reverse buyer seller meets.

Condition for
fulfillment of Export Obligation simplified
Introduction of Para
5.7.8 and Para 5.8.6 in Hand Book of Procedures Vol. I effective from
1.4.2007, related to "condition for fulfillment of Export
Obligation" under EPCG Scheme had caused hardship to the
exporters. FIEO took up the issue with the Commerce Secretary/DGFT to
provide relief to the exporters, DGFT has now issued Public Notice
No.53(RE-2007) 2004-09 dated 27th September, 2007 by which Para 5.7.8
and 5.8.6 have been deleted |
