FIEO receives ISO 9001:2000

FIEO has received ISO 9001:2000 from TUV Rheinland (India) Pvt. Ltd, a certifying agency headquartered in Germany. While receiving the certificate on 14 September at New Delhi, FIEO Director General Mr. Ajay Sahai said that the certification would not only help the Federation promote the concept of quality among member exporters but also help it lift their image in international markets.

Explaining how the certificate has helped FIEO in standardizing and monitoring its processes involved in providing services to exporters, overseas buyers and other associates, Mr. Sahai said, "We have set higher objectives and targets for providing improved services to our members." At the same time, said he, the process of providing quality service does not end with the receipt of ISO certificate, rather begins with it, because an ISO certified organization is required to demonstrate continued improvement in its services to the certifying body and also because the expectations of customers go up after such certification.

On this occasion, Mr. Sahai took the opportunity to urge all the exporters to go for ISO certification. He said such certification not only boosts the status of an exporter on the scale of quality but also helps it optimize its internal processes and thus improves its profitability. "Only quality product and service at competitive cost can sell in the international markets and ISO should be looked as a tool for achieving them," he stressed.

Outlining the Federation’s future plans of promoting quality among its members, Mr. Sahai said that shortly the Federation would be launching a drive to create awareness on quality among member exporters across the country and would endeavour to provide grassroots-level assistance to them in obtaining ISO certification.

UK Buyer meets FIEO members

Select FIEO members had a meeting with
a representative of Gash Sheffield Store, UK on 23rd August at Kolkata. The meeting was organized by the Eastern Region office of FIEO on a request received from Ms Julia Gash, the visiting representative of the Company who was looking for the suppliers of ecological bags made from jute and cotton. Saraf Impex Pvt Ltd, Ganges Jute Pvt Ltd, Kariwala Industries Ltd, East India Natural Goods Co. Ltd and R. K. Marketing were some of the exporters who took part in the meeting.
