Dinner Meet with
UCSSIC
Principal
Advisor to Director General of UNIDO, Mr. Jebamalai Vinanchiarachi feels
that African companies can take lots of advantages from R&D capabilities
of Indian companies. At a dinner meet organized by FIEO with a forty-member
delegation sponsored by UNIDO Centre for South South Industrial Cooperation
(UCSSIC) on 12 September in New Delhi, he explained how low-cost Indian
technologies could bring about results comparable with expensive
technologies of the developed world.
Earlier,
while welcoming the delegation, Northern Region Chairman of FIEO Dr. R. K.
Dhawan observed that it was economical for Africa to import pharmaceuticals,
handicrafts, engineering products, textiles, apparels etc. from India.
Towards the
end of the meet, FIEO Director General Mr. Ajay Sahai expressed confidence
that bilateral trade between India and African countries would scale newer
heights in near future, especially in sectors like leather and textiles.

Reduced
Tariff
on
import from Chile
The
Government has announced
tariff concessions on import of goods into India from the Republic of
Chile. Importers will be required to prove to the satisfaction of the
Deputy Commissioner of Customs or Assistant Commissioner of Customs,
as the case may be, that the goods in respect of which the benefit of
this exemption is claimed, are of the origin of the Republic of Chile,
in accordance with provisions of the Determination of Origin of Goods
under the Preferential Trading Agreement between the Republic of India
and the Republic of Chile Rules, 2007 [published in the notification
of the Government of India in the Ministry of Finance (Department of
Revenue), No.84/2007-Customs (N.T.), dated the 17th August,
2007]. Customs Notification No.101/2007-Customs dated 11th
