Additional Secretary in the Industries Department of Orissa, Mr. D P Mohapatra has informed that the new industrial policy of the state has recognized export as the thrust area. During an interaction with exporters organized by Orissa Chapter of FIEO on 11th September at Bhubaneswar, he said, though the state has recorded an impressive export figure of Rs. 10,744 crore for 2005-2006, more than 80% of the goods exported from the state were low value mineral and metallurgical products. "The proposed export policy of the state aims to focus value added goods," he added.

Speaking next, the Director of DEP&M (Directorate of Export Promotion & Marketing), Mr. R N Das said that the Directorate had drafted an Export Policy for the state four years ago and was now looking for the suggestions of exporters to update it. The exporters participating in the meeting suggested measures like introduction of container facility at Paradip, exemption of 4% state sales tax on DEPB, green card facility for free movement of cargo inside the state, etc.

The exporters decided to collectively furnish their suggestions on fiscal, non-fiscal and infrastructural aspects for inclusion in the proposed export policy. They suggested the Directorate to make a comparative evaluation of the export policies of different states before finalizing the export policy for Orissa.

On this occasion, the Branch Manager of ECGC, Mr. Subir Das informed that the Corporation had recently reduced insurance premium for the exporters by 10%. He further informed that the Corporation had now reclassified export destinations under seven categories and had put most destinations under low risk category.
