Iranian
envoy says, soon Indian banks will be able to open offices in Iran
|
Iranian
Consul General says that very soon Indian banks and financial institutions
will be able to open their branches in Iran’s mainland. Addressing more
then 150 people at Mumbai on 27th July, Mr. Ali Mohammadi informed that
Iranian regulations were being revised to allow foreign banks and financial
institutions to open their branches in Iran.
Mr. Mohammadi,
who has recently taken over as the new Consul General of Iranian Consulate
in Mumbai, also informed that his Consulate was now issuing business visas
within 24 hours on recommendations made by reputed commercial chambers or
industry associations. |

Speaking
further during the ceremony jointly organized by India-Iran Chamber of
Commerce & Industry (IICCI) and Indo-Iranian Friendship Society to
felicitate him, the Consul General wooed Indian investments in Iranian oil
& gas, copper and coal sectors.
FIEO
President Mr. Ganesh Kumar Gupta, during his address as the Guest of Honour,
expressed serious concern over the bilateral trade statistics between the
two countries recording a drop of 3.5% for the year 2005-06. "The
bilateral trade declined from US$1231.39 in the year 2004-05 to US$1188.35
million in the year 2005-06," he said. FIEO Chief expressed concurrence
with the view of the President of IICCI, Dr. S M Dewan, that the lack of
efficient banking channels between the two countries was chiefly responsible
for the downfall.

Identifying
the products exportable to Iran, Mr. Gupta said, a huge demand exits in Iran
for sports goods, rice, marine products, sesame seeds, oil meals, sugar,
cotton, jute, yarns etc. With respect to investments, he said, education,
oil exploration & information technology are the three major areas where
the two sides could collaborate for mutual benefits.
The
dignitaries who attended the ceremony included Dr Jamshed J Irani, Director,
Tata Sons Limited, Mr. Shailesh Bijoor, Jt Chief Protocol Officer,
Government of Maharashtra, and Mr. Homi R Khusrokhan, Managing Director,
Tata Chemicals Ltd.
