APCTT offers tech solutions to FIEO members
Asian and Pacific Center for Transfer of Technology (APCTT) officials called on FIEO and offered assistance to the members of Federation in accessing newer technologies for augmenting their production capacities and meeting consumer expectations in terms of quality.
During the meeting with FIEO officials, Dr. Ramanathan informed that APCTT provided expertise from different countries within Asia for capacity building and upgradation of technology for the SMEs of the member countries. "APCTT organizes training programmes for technological upgradation and keep the SMEs of the member countries regularly informed about the new technologies," he added.
FIEO Director General Mr. Ajay Sahai welcomed the gesture of APCTT and said that about 80% of FIEO’s members were SMEs who were in dire need of new technologies to enhance their production efficiencies. Such a move on the part of the APCTT, said he, would greatly benefit FIEO members in meeting the challenges of the fiercely competitive market in the new economy.
FIEO Convenor of the Committee on Services, Mr. Subhash Goyal felt that new technologies would equip Indian SMEs to take on their competitors from countries like China. He suggested that FIEO and APCTT should organize joint programmes on technological upgradation both in manufacturing as well as in services sector. APCTT Director agreed to the proposal and suggested organizing the first such programme in the month of April. FIEO Director (Services), Mr. Sandeep Gupta and Joint Director (Services), Mr. Vinod Pal, were also present in the meeting.
APCTT is a regional institution of the UNESCAP with headquarters at New Delhi. It aims at facilitating technology transfer in the Asian Pacific region. The Center promotes technical cooperation among the countries in the region through national focal points. APCTT provides support to SMEs and focus on innovation and technology transfer, knowledge management, exploitation of new and emerging technologies for the benefit of SMEs.
