These committees are known differently as Public Grievance Committee or Watchdog Committee or Trade Facilitation Committee. All these committees in each customs house meet at regular intervals to sort out the issues of the trade, Mr. Batra, informed.

Commenting on Dr. Dhawan’s remark seeking better coordination between Department of Commerce and Department of Revenue, Mr. Batra pointed out that there were differences of opinion between various departments but there was also a mechanism to sort out the issues. He requested for a clarification from Drawback Directorate that the output services on which service tax was to be refunded had not been factored into the calculation of drawback rates so that Service Tax Directorate could be approached for amendment in Service Tax Notification.
