The Eastern Region office of FIEO organized a Seminar on ‘Forex Risk Management and UCP 600’ in Bhubaneswar on 7th December. Other matters discussed in the Seminar were Industrial Policy 2008-09 of Orissa and the measures being taken by the State Government for development of exports by the downstream and ancillary industries. The Seminar was sponsored by ICICI Bank.

While inaugurating the Seminar, Mr. D. P. Mohapatra, Additional Secretary, Industry Department, Govt. of Orissa said the Industrial Policy of Orissa has been prepared keeping in mind the development of medium and small scale enterprises. The Policy focuses on improving the skills of the people of Orissa through MSME institutes and handicrafts and handloom departments. The focus industries are metals and ores, textiles and agro products, he added.

The presentations by ICICI bank officials dealt with risks in foreign exchange remittances and the ways and means to hedge such risks. They also highlighted the latest changes in the UCP documentation procedures and the changes that have been made under UCP 600.

Senior finance personnel, comprising of CAs and ICWAI graduates, from around 37 export companies took part in the Seminar. Mr. P. T. Srinath, Dy. Director, FIEO (ER), Kolkata was also present on the occasion along with senior officials of ICICI Bank.

In the present situation of hardships being faced by the exporters due to the appreciating Rupee coupled with increased competition in the international market, it has become pertinent for the exporters to resort to best management practices through well documented processes, efficient quality control systems, quality certification etc. to sustain their export business.

 

FIEO has thus planned to organize

a seminar on

"Quality Certification: An Imperative for Sustenance 

in International Market and the Steps for Achieving it"

as per the following schedule:

Time: 6:00 p.m.

Venue: Hotel Taj Ganges, Varanasi

 

The Seminar will not only provide insight into the requirement of quality in the international market but will also share the benefits which accrue to the implementing company in terms of enhanced productivity, quality and thus profitability. The seminar will detail the steps required for implementing quality systems and thus achieve quality certification.

 

In order to help the exporters to go for quality certification the Government of Uttar Pradesh extends subsidy upto Rs.1,00,000/-. We have requested the UP Export Promotion Bureau to share the various schemes available from the government and the Government’s future course of action to promote quality. Experts from TUV Rheinland India P. Ltd., an internationally recognised quality Certification Body, and also other experts in the field will address the seminar. The seminar will be followed by dinner.
