All said and done, the major challenge for Omani economy is to diversify into non-oil sectors and combat inflation. It needs to develop skill sets in the people to do this. Thus, there is a great opportunity for Indian companies engaged in developing skill sets to train Omani nationals.

Oman, being a member of Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC), offers ample opportunities for Indian businessmen. India’s trade with Oman grew at a rate of 61% in the year 2006-07 to cross the US$ 1 billion mark. GCC countries emerged as the third largest trade partner for India after European Union and the US and India’s total trade with the GCC countries has risen threefold - from $5.55 billion in 2000-01 to $23.42 billion in 2005-06. With the ongoing negotiations to have an India-GCC FTA, new opportunities of bilateral co-operation between the two sides will emerge in near future.
