About Guangzhou

Guangzhou Municipality, capital of Guangdong Province, is the centre of politics, economy and culture of the province. Legend has it that riding on the backs of five colored rams, five immortals once came to Guangzhou, bringing the locals an ear of rice as a gift and teaching them how to plant rice. The immortals wished them a happy life without hunger forever. Therefore, Guangzhou has another two names, "Yangcheng" (City of Rams) and "Suicheng" (City of Rice Ears). Located in the sub tropical South Asia characterized with oceanic monsoon weather, Guangzhou has long summers, short winters. Warm with a rich rainfall, vegetation is thriving green all the year round. Guangzhou is also a city of flowers.

With a long history of over 2200 years and a population of over 90 million, Guangzhou is a prosperous metropolis located on the northern line of the Tropic of cancer.

As one of the international ports of commerce, Guangzhou was once the starting point of the "Marie Silk Road" to the West. It was once the only Customs opens to the outside world for as long as 83 years. As the southern gate to and one of the key port cities of foreign trade in China, Guangzhou is the hub of communications and transportation in South China. Since the open policy and economic reform initiated in China, great changes have taken place in the local economic development. With the urban construction going fast and the suburbs sprawling out into countryside, the Pearl River with neon lights all along has become one splendid modern sight in Guangzhou.

Urban development has brought a prosperous commercial society with hundreds of overseas merchants rushing in and with more and more stores appearing. Many shopping centres, malls, supermarkets, commercial streets and markets of all sorts have sprouted like bamboo shoots after a spring shower in every urban district. Commercial walks offer a combination of activities, such as shopping, tourism, strolling has turned Guangzhou into a paradise of commerce.
