FIEO organizes live telecast of discussion on FTP with Zee Business
FIEO organized a live telecast of discussion on Annual Supplement to Foreign Trade Policy on ‘ZEE Business’ at Niryat Bhawan on 11th April. FIEO President Mr. Ganesh Kumar Gupta along with other Managing Committee Members joined the discussion. The discussion panel included Commerce Secretary Mr. G.K. Gupta and DGFT Mr. R S.Gujral. Mr. Chetan Sharma of Zee Business moderated the discussion.
During the discussion, FIEO President said that the Supplement did respond to the issues raised by exporters albeit on a limited scale. He said:”Measures like increase in duty remission rates, extension of subvention scheme, remission of service tax on few specified services will add to competitiveness of exports. The reduction in customs duty under EPCG Scheme from 5% to 3% will help modernization of export production. The uncertainty over DEPB Scheme is over and we are having a sigh of relief.”
FIEO Chief lauded the objective of Foreign Trade Policy to create additional jobs. In this context, he said, before we think of creating new jobs, we should think of preventing the loss of jobs, “Many export units are laying off workers in order to withstand the rupee wave and any responsible government should first address this issue,” he added.
FIEO chief acknowledged the efforts of the government towards reducing transaction cost for exports and felt that EDI connectivity amongst all the 13 trading partners could alone bring down substantially the transaction cost that ranges currently between 5 to 7%.
