Duty Free Zone of Iquique, Tarapaca Region, Chile (ZOFRI)

Ø  It is located in a strategic geographic location

Ø  Six percent of the companies working in ZOFRI are of Indian origin

Ø  ZOFRI’s imports from India had totaled US$ 39.2 million in 2010, US$ 42.9 million in 2011, US$ 60.8 million in 2012, and US$ 45.4 million in 2013.

Ø  Total sales have grown from US$ 1.5 billion in 2003 to US$ 4.4 billion in 2012. Of these, 54% is sold in Chile, 24% goes to Bolivia, 9% to Paraguay, 8% to Peru and 5% to other countries.

Ø  It provides employment to 36,000 people in (22% of the Tarapaca’s workforce)

Ø  The main items sold by ZOFRI are fuels and lubricants (US$ 727 million); Motor vehicles (US$ 725 million), Electronics (US$ 471 million); Apparels (US$ 437 million), Machinery and Equipment (US$ 252 million), Household items (US$ 244 million), Textiles (US$ 173 million), Footwear (US$ 162 million) and computer items (US$ 101 million).

Ø  Through the 3300 km. bioceanic corridor being currently under construction, ZOFRI will be connected to Bolivia, Peru, Paraguay and Brazil.
